Bone broths for dogs are easy to make and rich in nutrients. They are particularly beneficial to dogs with arthritis and joint pain.
Have you been making bone broths for yourself and your dogs?
If not, you should!
Benefits of Bone Broths for Dogs
Bone broths are jam-picked with nutrients, such as:
- Minerals (e.g. calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium)
- Protein
- Joint and skin healing goodies (such as collagen, keratin, gelatin, chondroitin sulfate, glucosamine and hyaluronic acid)
So if your oldie is suffering from arthritis and joint pain, or has skin problems, bone broths could help!
Got an old dog whose appetite is sluggish? Add some bone broth to her food. The extra flavor may entice her to eat, and the nutrients in the broth are added-value.
Also, bone broths are good for supporting the immune system.
All golden oldies need support for their immune systems, but particularly for those who are not as strong, or suffering from chronic diseases such as cancer, extra boosts in the form of diet and supplements should be given. Bone broths could just be one of such extra boosts.

- Add parsley a few minutes before draining the broth from the bones.
- Store the broth in glass jars in a refrigerator for up to one week.

Adding chicken feet to this broth increases the collagen content, and is great for dogs with arthritis and joint pain. You can get chicken feet at Chinese supermarkets.
In place of fresh shiitake, you can also use 3-4 dried shiitake but you need to soak them in hot water first. Add the water for soaking the mushrooms to the broth for extra flavor.
